Forest Town, Johannesburg, Gauteng
Forest Town is aptly named as it is one of the Johannesburg’s leafiest suburbs. Set against Parktown Ridge and surrounded by the popular suburbs of Saxonwold and Westcliff it is very sought after due to its surrounding amenities and central location.
It is a small suburb having less than 250 houses with an interesting maze of streets as a pleasant contrast from the normal square block lay out. Most stands in Forest Town are 1000 sqm, however there are still a number of 2000 sqm stands with less than half a dozen 4000 sqm stands. Any sub-divided land for sale in Forest Town is in high demand.
Positioned only a few minutes away from the popular Killarney and Rosebank Malls with access to the highways practically on the doorstep, it is a suburb in constant demand which holds its value. The Rosebank Gautrain station is close as is the Johannesburg Zoo and Zoo Lake Park where residents can visit the animals or take strolls and walk their dogs.
History
Forest Town had its beginnings as a suburb with small dwellings for staff working for the upper classes of Parktown and Westcliff. The original houses were built in the 1920’s and early 1930’s and have over the years been extended in size thereby retaining their original character and resulting in only a small percentage of modern houses.
