Melrose House

Melrose House in Gauteng of South Africa is situated in the city of Pretoria.

Melrose House serves as a museum showcasing decorative features of the Victorian period, including ornate stained-glass windows, carpets and paintings. It is a beautiful former residence situated across the street, and offering beautiful views, of Burgers Park. It was originally owned by George Heys, a very successful business man, in 1886. During the war, after the British invaded Pretoria in 1900, Melrose House became the Headquarters for the British forces under Lord Roberts and Lord Kitchener and in 1902 the Peace Treaty of Vereeniging was signed in the dining room.

On occasion, the Museum holds Antique & Craft Fairs with 200 stalls selling furniture, jewelry and bric-a-brac collectables.
