Far North Region, Kruger National Park, Limpopo
The Northernmost region of the Kruger Park extends south from the River Limpopo, which forms the international boundary between Zimbabwe and South Africa to the Tropic of Capricorn. Mopane trees are in dominance in this area. This large district is mostly arid and flat except for some of the areas where higher localised rainfall give rise to the formation of dense Mopane groves. This is especially noticeable around Punda Maria. To the north of Punda Maria the impressive vista is broken by craggy sandstone hills and an abundance of giant Baobab trees.
Game viewing is particularly good along the river systems of this region. Nyala, Sable, Roan, Eland, Buffalo and Elephant are abundant while predators like Lion, Cheetah and Leopard are only ever occasionally spotted.
