Boskop Dam Nature Reserve, North West
The Boskop Dam Nature Reserve is situated in the Mooi River Valley about 20 km North of Potchefstroom in the North West Province, South Africa.
The Reserve is 3 000 hectares of rolling grassland and the Dam approximately 5 km long. It is a popular recreational destination for all those in close proximity and is known for its’ many outdoor activities such as boating, game viewing and angling.
Boskop is in fact best known for its’ Angling and is host to many fishing competitions throughout the year, offering opportunities to fish for Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Barbel and monstrous Carp. It also has tremendous potential as a fly-fishing venue with superb site fishing for beautifully coloured and very powerful Smallmouth Yellows.
The Reserve boasts over 250 bird species and the wildlife includes Zebra, Black Wildebeest, Springbuck, Red Hartbees, Sable Antelope and Blesbok. Hiking trails offer a superb way to view the wildlife.
Boskop is the perfect weekend destination for either camping or a one day excursion for a leisurely picnic beside the Dam.

Climate
Rainfall occurs mainly in the mid-summer months, with December and January seeing the highest levels. Winter nights can drop below freezing.
Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 15˚C and 29˚C.
Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 2˚C and 18˚C.
Transport
There are Domestic and International flights into Johannesburg’s O R Tambo Airport and Lanseria Airport on a daily basis. Car rental companies are available for easy access around the area.
Road trips from Johannesburg to Potchefstroom will take approximately one and a half hours (123 km) via the N12. The R501 leads further to Bodkop Dam from Potchefstroom.
