Big Swing & Highwire in Graskop, Mpumalanga

The Big Swing is situated in Graskop in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

The Lowveld is full of adventure activities and the Big Gorge Swing has to be the most popular with visitors looking for an adrenaline rush. Some may ask who would want to throw themselves off the edge of a gorge for fun, but here at “Big Swing” you can find this very kind of adrenaline-junkie and his friends!

Big Swing invites you to take the 68 metre plunge, plummeting at 0 – 160 km/h in three seconds, across the gorge. The views are spectacular and to get back up to the top you will have to climb a set of 442 steps that ascend through the gorge and trees which gives you plenty of time to explore the scenery and bird life!

If the swing is not your style, you can opt for the zipline instead. Here you fly 130 metres above the ground on a 135 metre high wire or “foefie slide” as the locals call it. From the slide you have a breathtaking view of the Graskop Falls as you have never seen them before.

A multi-tier deck at the other side of the Gorge allows those not participating to sit back and enjoy a drink while watching the jumpers!

Climate

Rainfall occurs mainly in the mid-summer months, with December and January seeing the highest levels.

Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 15˚C and 26˚C.

Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 5˚C and 20˚C.

Transport

There are daily flights from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town into the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in Mombela (Nelspruit). Car rental companies are available for easy access to the surrounding areas with Graskop being just over an hour away along the R537. Road trips from Johannesburg to Graskop via the N12 and N4 will take a little over 4 hours.
