The little seaside village of St James borders Muizenberg en route to Kalk Bay and has a stunning mountain backdrop with incredible sea views and a pretty little beach.
St James’ beach, known by its colourful beach huts, has a large tidal pool and is very popular with families. The beach, which is sheltered from the notorious winds from Cape Town, is close to the Simons Town railway line and offers safe swimming conditions, is packed with a diversity of people and their children in the summer holidays.
A wonderful spot for magnificent views over False Bay and from which to spot whales in season, is Boyes Drive, which runs up above St James.
The residential suburb, very close to Rhodes’ Cottage, is much sought after and many of the homes date back to the time when the Cape was a colony of the Victorian empire.
St James was named after the St James Roman Catholic Church, built in 1858, for the Filipino fishermen of the neighbouring Kalk Bay.
