plekke wat jy nooit sal vergeet nie

Langkloof Pass, just outside the town of Olifanshoek, is one of four Passes with the same name. There are two in the Western Cape, Kareedouw and Montagu, and a second confusingly also in the Northern Cape near Garies.

Distance 10.7 km
Gradient average 1:64
Gradient maximum 1:10
Summit 1516 m
Surface Gravel

The Pass is aptly named as it passes through the Langeberg mountain range. The area is quite out of the way with only a few farms dotted here and there, so it is best to let someone know when you drive the Pass just in case of punctures or breakdowns. The road in general is in good condition and can be driven in any vehicle.

Approaching the Pass from the south is advisable, drive from the Olifanthshoek in a southerly direction on the N14 for about 1.6 km. Turn right on to the D3331 (signposted) and travel approximately 5.5 km on this gravel road to the start of the pass.

Langkloof Pass follows the contours of the mountain offering shallow S-bends, a few sharp 90 degree turns and some lazy curves. Rocky hills and cone-shaped koppies lead you to the summit with beautiful views of the valley below of typical Northern Cape scenery of rocky hills and low karoo scrubland.

The road connects with several other minor gravel roads in the Kalahari, eventually terminating near Van ZylsRus – 170 km to the North on the SA/Botswana border.
