Annual Penguin Festival

Here Come the Penguins!

Each year the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) hosts the annual Penguin Festival, this year will be the 17th annual festival and festivals goers can join together on Seaforth Beach in Simon’s Town to celebrate the African Penguin.

For the past 17 years now, SANCCOB have dedicated a day of public celebration to raise awareness of the endangered African Penguin species, which is kick-started with a public beach release of rehabilitated African penguins at Seaforth Beach.

Please note however, that this year, the festival that follows the beach release will take place at Simon’s Town School where the organisation will bring like-minded individuals together to exhibit their conservation efforts and educate festival guests on how they can do their part.

Members of the public are invited to watch the penguins waddle their way to freedom then make their way to the school for the rest of the festival entertainment or just simply enjoy a day on the beach.

Expect a fun family day out with rides for children, educational exhibits with an environmental spin, food vendors and a designated craft beer and wine area! Entry is completely free, and the festival has also provided fun for the younger crowd at the dedicated Kids’ Zone.

Everyone is invited to one of Cape Town’s favourite events of the year - please donate if you are able, any kind of donation is welcome and will help the foundation to rehabilitate more of these much-loved birds!
