South Africa
beauty, you'll never forget

The South Coast is a sub-tropical paradise of golden beaches, blue lagoons, coastal forests, rocky coves and sunny weather. The lovely warm weather makes KwaZulu Natal’s South Coast a popular all year-round holiday playground for local and international visitors and also one of the most popular travel and holiday destinations in South Africa.

The region stretches south from Umkomaas to Port Edward and is dotted with popular holiday resorts such as Scottburgh, Park Rynie, Hibberdene, Port Shepstone, Uvongo and Margate, offering all types of accommodation, adventure activities and entertainment.

Water sports are the major attraction with surfing, swimming, fishing, snorkelling, whale watching and the annual sardine run as constant drawcards. Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks are two renowned deep-sea diving venues and for the avid golfer there are no less than 9 excellent 18-hole golf courses, some of which are rated amongst the very best in the country.

There are many rewarding opportunities to discover the mysteries of Zulu and Indian cultures, shop for authentic handicrafts, browse museums and galleries, visit artists and other creative folk in their inspirational studio retreats, pursue the gentle pastimes of bird watching and shell collecting, catch that suntan or just watch the passing parade from a sidewalk cafe.

The Indian Ocean presents a year-round display of frolicking dolphins and majestic, cruising whales but in June or July each year 'The Greatest Shoal on Earth' can be witnessed when the annual winter Sardine Run brings millions of sardines, thousands of dolphins and sharks, hundreds of fur seals, uncountable game fish, squadrons of sea birds and the occasional whale close to shore. This event, one of nature’s truly grand spectaculars and wonders of the world is attracting more and more attention and visitors from around the globe each year.

If your bit is to get away from it all and commune with nature, you can visit the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve, which conserves plants found nowhere else in the world.
