Abantu Book Festival

Embracing All Forms of Storytelling

Held in the vibrant, historically significant township of Soweto, just outside Johannesburg, the Abantu Book Festival is designed to acknowledge and celebrate the rich and diverse literary heritage of this continent.

After its phenomenal success in its inaugural year, the line-up for its second edition is set to impress even more. The Eyethu Lifestyle Centre will host free day events and evening events, including panel discussions which will be held at the Soweto Theatre from 18h00 at only R20 per person. Due to the popularity of the event, guests are advised to book their seats early.

A huge feature of the Abantu Book Festival is the participation of many renowned authors, playwrights, poets, actors, readers, scholars and many more. Some of those in the line-up include Mandla Langa, Grace Musila, Zakes Zda, Shabnum Khan, Zubaida Jaffer and Kopano Matlwa to name a few.

“Visitors should look forward to an Abantu weekend that grapples with, interrogates and illuminates the stories of black lives”. Come along and see how the dynamic township of Soweto is transformed into a literary village!
