Cape Floral Region (Kingdom), Western Cape
The Cape Floral Kingdom in the Cape Province of South Africa encompasses 8 separate regions with a total area of 553 000 hectares. It has been acknowledged as a district with a very high density of flora that is of value to the whole world, mainly due to the diversity, density, adaptability and other quantities that the plants manifest. The way the plants have learned to adapt to fire and their unique way in which they utilise the various forms of seed dispersal, reproduction and survival is of great interest to the scientific world. This area is famous for its unique Fynbos vegetation and is also home to 11 000 marine species, 560 vertebrate species as well as 142 reptile species.
The Cape Floral Kingdom was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2004.

Managing & Protection Authorities
The country has many laws and by laws in place to protect the Cape Floral Kingdom from dangers that threaten the integrity of these regions such as fire and invasive plants. Mining in these protected areas is totally prohibited and the custodian who takes care of these threats to the Kingdom is the (Cape Floral Region Protected Areas World Heritage Property Joint Management Committee) that is made up of the following entities

- Eastern Cape Parks Board
- Department of Environmental Affairs & Tourism
