R62 (Cape Route 62)
Ashton to Humansdorp

The Cape Route 62 is a touristic route that stretches between Ashton in the Western Cape and Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape, offering a slightly shorter, more scenic alternative to the rather uninteresting section of the N2 highway between Cape Town and George.

Longest Wine Route

Route 62 is said to be the longest wine route in the world and spans a distance of 850 km from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth

The route lends itself well to self-drive holidays because of the good road conditions, ample accommodation and a diversity of attractions. The ever changing colours of the majestic mountains, scenic passes, rivers, orchards and vineyards, as well as a multitude of attractions, all offer you an unforgettable journey and it is reputed to be the longest wine route in the world.

Superb Landscapes

It is an area of superb landscapes and soaring cliffs, crystal clear streams and a profusion of trees and indigenous flora that all contribute to make Paarl, Wellington, the Breede River Valley, Klein Karoo and Langkloof some of South Africa's most diverse regions. There are no fewer than 500 different species of succulents that can be seen along Route 62.
