Bersig Fort in Montagu, Western Cape

The Bergsig Fort at an elevation of 306m, is located midway up the koppie at the north-east corner of the town above the suburb of Bergsig, commanding the Koo Valley and alternative Touws River Road from the west side.  

Only the foundation courses of the walls of this fort remain to a maximum height of 0.8m above outside ground level. They enclose a main area measuring 5.65 x 4.0m externally, with an entrance lobby on the uphill (north) side. 

From the large number of fallen rocks both inside and outside the fort, it is clear that the fort has suffered from the attention of vandals, being so close to the town.
