Tuzi Gazi got its name from the two rivers which flow into the harbour in this area ; the uMhlathuze and the Mzingazi.
The Waterfront
The Tuzi Gazi Waterfront is the ideal playground for water sports enthusiasts.
The upmarket office complex, numerous shops, pubs, restaurants and walk on moorings all add to the vibrant atmosphere. The yacht harbour with its luxurious ocean yachts is a favourite meeting point for sailors and globetrotters from all over the world.
The harbour has been carefully and cleverly designed to accommodate the industry it supports, yet also preserves the natural environment around it. A wall was built across the bay to divide the original lagoon. It is very well protected from winds and wave action from all directions. The marina itself is of modern construction consisting of stainless steel framework with heavy wooden planking for the walkways which rest on fiberglass flotation pontoons.
To the north is the industrial harbour, and to the south a wildlife sanctuary. The lagoon floodwaters flow directly into the sea by means of an estuary which was cut through the dunes. Birdlife is prolific and Richards Bay is considered a top birding destination.
The Waterfront lies west of the beaches after crossing a narrow bridge over the Mzingazi canal.
