History behind the name
Alberto Vargas was born in Peru in 1896. By the time he was 13, his father, the renowned photographer, Max Vargas, had taught him now to use an airbrush.
He became an American citizen in 1939. That same year he started working for Esquire magazine and the first Vargas Girl Calendar was introduced, which sold better than any other published calendar up to that time.
Since then the name Vargas has been synonymous with pin-up and glamour art. In fact, the word Vargas, has actually been applied to almost every kind of pin-up subject. A fitting tribute to the most famous and prolific glamour artist of all time.
